As part of SalesMethods 1% pledge (https://pledge1percent.org/), part of my weekly routine has been volunteering for a charity called Football Beyond Borders (https://footballbeyondborders.org). FBB’s aim is to harness the young people’s passion for football and give them the intensive, long term support to overcome their challenges and succeed at school and in life.
I volunteer by going once a week to join in the FBB Schools initiative that works with Primary, Secondary and Further Education schools & colleges to engage and support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds experiencing behaviour and academic performance challenges.
I have been able to see first-hand the impact that FBB is having on the young people who are involved with the charity and I must say they are doing some truly outstanding work. The young people who are part of the programme visibly grow in confidence and have a real feeling of community and self-worth. This is so crucial in an era when young people with no real opportunities can find themselves feeling extremely disenfranchised with school and society in a wider context.
I hope to be a part of the FBB community for many years to come and our next collaboration is to run the Brighton Marathon in order to raise funds for the charity. I have never run a marathon before, so it is something completely new to me and it is definitely a mixture of excitement and nerves so far!
It should be an awesome experience, so I have been training over the past few months in order to get myself ready and hopefully can get around the 26 miles in one piece!
Below is a link to my JustGiving page where I am raising money so if you feel that you would like to spare some of your hard-earned money, I would be extremely grateful!
Please have a look at FBB, the great work they do and if you would like to know more about the charity or any other opportunities to get involved, please feel free to email me at Charlie.firstname.lastname@example.org
